Elder Robert Washington Whiteside, Jr.
Elder Robert Washington Whiteside, Jr., 71, of Mt. Vernon passed away 7:10 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at
his home in Mt. Vernon.
Robert was born August 8, 1943in Jackson, Tennessee a son of Robert Whiteside, Sr. and Lillie (Fuller) Whiteside.
He later married Jenneal (Todd) Waithe on May 9, 2009 in Mt. Vernon and she survives in Mt. Vernon.
Elder Whiteside worked for the City of Mt. Vernon public works department until retirement. He later worked
for Mt. Vernon District 80 Schools in the Grandparent Program. He was a member the Lively Stone Apostolic Church in Mt. Vernon
where he served as assistant Pastor.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jenneal Whiteside of Mt. Vernon; mother Lillie B. Whiteside of Jackson, TN;
three daughters, Charlene Claybrooks and husband David of Washington, DC, Errian Johnson-Whiteside of Centralia, and Mia Cantley
of St. Louis, MO; four sons, Terry Cantley, Sr. and wife Alesa of Indianapolis, IN, Derek Waithe of Texas, J.D. Lesure of
Texas and Quel Thomas of Mt. Vernon; six brothers, Roy Lee Whiteside, Bruce Whiteside and wife Mary, Rickey Whiteside and
wife Charlotte, Jerome Whiteside and wife Martha, Malcolm Whiteside and Melvin Whiteside and wife Marie; three sisters, Jacqueline
Gail Whiteside-Smith and husband Larry, Angela Diane Whiteside-Liggins and husband Jerry and Mona Whiteside; a host of grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, students, friends and co-workers. Mr. Whiteside was also survived by an aunt, Ophelia
Whiteside Bond of Jackson, TN and two goddaughters, Helene Moore and Colleen Brown.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Whiteside, Sr.; wife, Dorothy Whiteside; son, LaMont Cantley;
sister, Cathy Whiteside-Allen; and five brothers, Oscar Lee, Willie B., Danny Ray, Clint and Bernard.
Funeral services for Elder Robert Washington Whiteside, Jr. will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at
the Lively Stone Apostolic Church in Mt. Vernon with Elder Allen E. Rudd Sr. and Bishop Paul H. Evans officiating. Interment
will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until
the funeral hour on Saturday.
