Imogene Virginia Hester, 87, of Mt. Vernon, IL, died 7:34 p.m. Tuesday, March
22, 2016 at the SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Imogene was born September 15, 1928, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the daughter of George William and Edna
(Hart) Edson. She first married Earl D. Hester September 14, 1947 and he preceded her in death May 5, 1964. She later married
Sam Blackard on June 4, 1972 and he preceded her in death June 1981.
Mrs. Hester was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. Imogene had worked
as a clerk for the M.E. Jackson Jewelers in Mt. Vernon until her retirement. She was a loving mother and grandmother and
loved cooking for her family.
Mrs. Hester is survived by her son, Danny Hester and wife Jan of Fountain Hills, Arizona; daughter,
Sherry Hester of Mt. Vernon; brothers, Norman Edson of Mt. Vernon, Richard Edson of Phoenix, Arizona and Jack Edson and wife
Betty of Elkhart, Indiana; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and also several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her husbands; son, Jimmy Hester;
sisters, Pearl Dick and Beulah Eugenia Webb; brothers, George Herbert Edson and Bob Edson; and also a grandson, Richard Hester.
Funeral service for Imogene Hester will be held 12 noon Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Newell Funeral
Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Michael Sheets officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation
will be held on Saturday, from 10 a.m until service time at the funeral Home.
